WBA featherweight champion Chris ‘the Dragon’ John will promote his mandatory title fight against WBA #1 Roinet Caballero of Panama at the Indoor Tennis Stadium, Jakarta, Indonesia. He will cooperate with his management company, Chris John Management, to stage the champion’s bout in front of his fans on January 26, 2008.
“I have learned Caballero’s style. He’s a puncher type, so he will be a hard opponent for me,” said John in the press conference today at the Jakarta Convention Center. John’s last fight was in Kobe, Japan, where he won by TKO in round 10 over Zaiki Takemoto. Previously, John vs. Caballero was to be done in February of next year, with John firstly featured on the December 16 undercard of the WBA light heavyweight title clash between Danny Green and Stipe Drews in Perth, Australia, but the plans changed rapidly until this latest development. Asked about a unification fight, Chris John replied that he’s not interested due to the headaches of the mandatory title fight schedules if he also becomes a champion in another body.
