
Eager for a big knockout victory, something rare in his seven year title reign, WBA featherweight champion Chris John performed with the usual high standard of boxing ability that he displayed in his previous fights with Osamu Sato, Derrick Gainer, Juan Manuel Marquez, and Rocky Juarez (twice). Although winning by convincing scores of 119-109 (Sylvestre Abainza, Pinit Prayadsab) and 120-108 (Jose Ignacio Martinez) over his foe Fernando David Saucedo, John failed to utilize the weapons that have become his trademark: jabs, straight punches, excellent footwork, body movement, and fast combinations.
