It's Official - WBA Announce Enoki vs John to be Mandatory Defence

John vs. TakemotoChris John will take on unbeaten Japanese Featherweight Hiroyuki Enoki 27 (19) 0 2 on October 24th in Tokyo, Japan.

This announcement will put to rest rumours spreading Indonesia that John had been stripped of his title. This fight will be John’s 10th consecutive defence as well as his 5th Mandatory fight. Chris John’s trainer and manager said today that he would like to thank WBA for their support of Chris John and that Chris is very thankful and grateful for their support and he is very proud to be representing the best governing body in boxing.

Chris John said “I will be representing my country and the WBA to me this is very sacred and god willing I will win and do them proud, I just want win for my people and I would like to thank my manager Craig Christian and my matchmaker Sampson “Picasso” Lewkowicz for looking after me and also the WBA for being who they are, the very best in boxing”.

I don't understand why CJ didn't choose more popular enemy. While gaining "WBA super champ" status is good, it won't help his popularity in USA.
I hope he will take better opponent after this fight (I believe he will win!), such as rematch with Marquez or unification with Linares.

Craig (CJ's trainer) always said that CJ will never move up to bigger division, so rematch with JMM is seemingly impossible. Linares has also moved up to jr. lghtweight.
