SOS: Indonesian Boxing is Dying!
Indonesian boxing is dying. Boring, monotonous live events on TV, along with a dwindling pool of quality fighters have slowly killed the sport. In the 1980’s, there was one television station broadcasting boxing, the government-owned, TVRI. During this time, several Indonesian boxers were cultivated and achieved a measure of success during this time; OPBF welterweight champion Wongso Suseno (the first Indonesian to gain an international boxing title), IBF super flyweight champion Ellyas Pical, IBF strawweight champion Nico Thomas, and Thomas Americo, former WBA welterweight contender and the first Indonesian to challenge for a world title... Saat ini pemirsa tinju Indonesia memang berkurang, meski soal prestasi (juara dunia) mungkin kita sekarang better. Saya rasa kurangnya publisitas dan tingkat kesejahteraan atlet tinju nasional yang menyebabkan hal ini. Saat ini saya sangat senang karena TvOne sering menyiarkan partai tinju berbobot. Semoga ke depannya partai berkualitas spt Holt-Torres 3 dan Margarito-Mosley terus ditayangkan.
